Dr. Josie Ball

Hello everyone!

I grew up in the small town of Poulsbo, Washington, a little over an hour outside of Seattle. I have always been an athlete (as I believe each of us are in our own capacity) and as such have experienced many injuries over the years. With each of these injuries brought more knowledge and desire to help others through this process.  I played collegiate softball until a knee injury ended my competitive career. This fast tracked me to finish my pre-requisites and jump right into chiropractic school a little over a year later.

I attended the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon. I graduated with my bachelors in human biology, masters in sports and exercise science and doctorate of chiropractic in a little over 3 years….Yes I am a ‘type A’ personality….Being a born and raised pacific northwest girl I moved back home and began working at a well know sports medicine focused clinic. Here I worked with a semi-professional and local youth soccer program on top of my regular patient load. I taught sports conditioning courses, nutrition courses and connected with many local birth workers in the community. Adventure got the best of me and I moved (with my husband and our jeep) to Alaska where we traveled and adventured around the entire state while treating patients from all walks of life.

12 months later my dream job opened up back in Gig Harbor, Washington at a prestigious sports medicine clinic. Here I worked along side orthopedic surgeons, physicians assistants, physical therapists, athletic trainers, chiropractors in a truly one of a kind multidisciplinary clinic. I was deeply invested in the birth community and helped many mothers throughout their perinatal period. I also had the honor of working with the Seattle Sounders professional soccer program for multiple seasons.

During my time in Gig Harbor, I had my first son at home with a local midwifery team. Through a difficult birth I learned more of the importance of birth preparation. A local chiropractor/midwife supported me through my first son’s birth and quickly became my mentor. Over the next three years I learned and connected more with prenatal, pregnancy and postpartum care.  I find great joy in supporting women in all stages of their perinatal journey.  I have always had a strong desire to treat things with natural medicine. My first year of motherhood was the catalyst for becoming an herbalist. Intuitively I knew that most of the mainstream medical advice for new moms and babies fell short. So I started researching, learning and creating my own path forward. I took a year long intensive course in therapeutic herbalism and herbal medicine making where I learned how to care for myself, my family and my patients even more effectively.

My family and I relocated to Shepherdstown, West Virginia at the beginning of 2021 for my husbands work.  We welcomed our second son at home with the help of our wonderful midwifery team in August of 2021. My husband and I love to spend our free time outdoors with our boys Atlas and Wilder and two Border Collie mixes Quil and Harper. We have a large edible garden, a growing herbal medicine garden and hope to have a classroom on the property in the future to use for our boys homeschool groups as well as future herbalism courses for the community. We love to create community and connect around a camp fire or over a cup of coffee.  I have spent the last several months eager to connect with the local community and look forward to meeting and helping the people of West Virginia live their best lives.
